Lending a Helping Hand

A few weeks ago during the last Seed 2 Green meeting, some group members gave some of their time before classes to help Mr. Zamora screen print some t-shirts for the Grace Dodge talent show.  How is this related to environmental issues, you ask?  Well, we are thinking about making our own shirts sometime in the future and Mr. Zamora was willing to show us the do-it-yourself method of screen printing our own design (plus, doing things by hand helps save energy!). We assisted with the creation of approximately 20 shirts and then enjoyed watching the multi-talented students of Grace Dodge High.

Pictures of Our Garden Site

Hello all.  We're back after a few weeks on break from blogging with some pictures of our planting site here at Grace Dodge High School.  Please see the pictures and descriptions below of our conveniently located plots of land located directly in front of the school:

Here, you can see one of the two plots- this is the one located to the right of the school.  As you can see, we have ample space to put in a few wooden frames in order to fill with dirt and then plant some seeds.  There are a few shrubs and other structures that we will be working around during the beautification process.

This is a view of the same plot from the opposite side.  We are fortunate enough to be working within a gated space which will separate our garden from pedestrian traffic while still maintaing high visibility from foot traffic and drivers alike.

This is a view from the plot to the left of the school.  The white object in the distance is a flagpole and to the right of that is a metal grate that stretches alongside the school.

Here is a view of the same plot from the other side.  You can see the flag pole and the partially obscured grate to the left of it.

This is a view of the sidewalk in front of the school as well as the main entrance in relation to the garden plot.

Here is the main entrance and stairway flanked by the metal gates which surround the plots.

Here is a final view of the plot in relation to the sidewalk and Crotona Ave.
