Another Grant Down, More To Go...
Happy Valentines day, everyone. Just a few quick updates on the group over the past week...first of all, we have applied for a Welch's Harvest Grant which would potenitally grant us $500-$1,000 or "a customized indoor or outdoor garden package filled with a variety of tools, seeds, educational materials, and more." We have been including this blog as a reference for organizations to keep up to speed on our progression as we apply for more funding for the group. Also, with the help of an afterschool instructor, we are planning on making some Seed 2 Green t-shirts in the next few weeks. All logo ideas are welcome. We'll be sure to post some pictures of our designs and/or the finished product when we are done.

Building Our Resources So We Can Get Our Garden Started
by Brandi Copes
We have registered with the organzation called Grow NYC. The reason why we registered is so that people will be able to help us build our garden and also be able to get other resources. We have also applied for the Energizer Hall of Fame Grant. The reason for applying for this grant is because we will need funds to help out with our garden and our supplies for the garden. Being able to register and apply for these porgrams gives our garden the chance to grow and become successful. We will also need supplies for our garden. The supplies that will be needed are: bow rake, garden shears, hoes, shovels, spading forks and watering cans, etc. We will be contacting some organzations about getting recycled or damaged materials that can still be used for our garden.

Updates for February...
Hello again, it's been a few weeks since our last update but steady progress has been made on our project. For starters, last week we met with the Bronx Green-Up to talk about the specifics of the garden. We spoke about the construction of raised beds, soil testing, composting, and techniques for community outreach. Because of our proximity to the New York Botanical Garden (where the Bronx Green-Up calls home) we are within walking distance of their services are looking forward to bettering our community through our commitment to creating and maintaining green space in the Bronx.
We are also working on preparing our presentation for the project at the Good Shepherd Services Youth Summit on Friday, March 18th, 2010. Here, we will be talking about our project with other high school students from around New York City...more updates on our research as time goes on!

Samm hard at work finalizing the sketch of our plot.
